These whale photographs were taken in three different parts of North America. The humpback whales are from the waters surrounding the Dominican Republic where the Atlantic humpbacks go in the winter to give birth. The orcas are members of the resident J, K, and L pods off the coast of Washington state and British Columbia. The gray whale photographs were taken in the Pacific waters off the Baja Peninsula. The gray whales spend the winter there to give birth. I was fortunate to go out in a boat to photograph the gray whales. You are not permitted to approach them, but often the curious mothers and calves come right up to the boat, providing amazing up-close photography opportunities.
